Guide updated July 2026 · Runs via DOSBox + WebAssembly
Bio Menace — Jim Norwood's 1993 run-and-gun platformer for Apogee, built on the Commander Keen engine but aimed squarely at players who wanted more shooting. You're CIA agent Snake Logan, dropped into a city overrun by mutants. 3D Realms released it as freeware in 2005, so it's legal to host and play right here.

How it works & what to expect
The original DOS release runs in a WebAssembly DOSBox build on this page. The title sequence leads into a menu — press Esc if you land in the ordering-info screens, which is easy to do by mashing Enter. Episode One, Dr. Mangle's Lab, is included.
Playing tips
Crouch while shooting to hit low enemies — you'll need it constantly. If you land in the ordering-info screens by pressing Enter through the title sequence, press Esc to get back out.
Why it's free
3D Realms released Bio Menace as freeware in December 2005 as part of a batch of legacy Apogee titles. It's the same complete game they distributed, not a cut-down demo.
