Looking for the Microsoft version? JezzBall shipped in the Microsoft Entertainment Pack and is proprietary, so we can't host it — but our JezzBall guide covers running your own copy in the browser, and this plays by the same rules.
How to play JezzBall
The field starts empty except for the balls. Click and a wall grows from that point in both directions until each end hits something. While it's growing it's fragile — a ball touching it destroys the wall and costs a life. Once both ends anchor, it's permanent.
How capture works
Whenever a wall completes, the game checks which parts of the field the balls can still reach. Anything sealed off from every ball is captured and filled in. That's the whole game: cut the field into pieces, and any piece without a ball becomes yours.
Levels
Level 1 has two balls; each level adds another and they move a little faster. Clearing a level earns a bonus and an extra life, which is what makes long runs possible.
Strategy that actually helps
- Build in the gaps behind the balls. Watch where they're heading and wall off the space they've just left.
- Short walls are safer. Near an edge a wall anchors almost instantly, so there's barely any window for a ball to break it.
- Cut corners off first. Slicing a corner is low-risk and chips away at the 75% steadily.
- Split the field, then subdivide. Halving a big space is worth more than nibbling at the edges — and each half is easier to finish.
- Don't chase the last few percent. Once you're near 75%, take the safe wall rather than the clever one.
Frequently asked questions
Is this Microsoft JezzBall?
No. JezzBall shipped in the Microsoft Entertainment Pack and is proprietary software we can't legally host. This is an original implementation of the same game, written for ExeBrowser and free to play. For the original, see our JezzBall guide.
How much of the board do I need to capture?
Seventy-five percent. The counter in the status bar shows how much of the field you have sealed off so far.
Why did my wall disappear?
A ball touched it while it was still growing. A wall is only safe once both of its ends have anchored against an edge or an existing wall — until then, contact destroys it and costs a life.
How do I build a horizontal wall?
Right-click, press Space, or use the direction button under the board. It toggles between vertical and horizontal, and the button always shows which one is armed.
Do I need to download or sign up for anything?
No. The game runs directly in your browser as plain JavaScript — no emulator, no download, no account, and nothing is uploaded.
