God of Thunder — a 1993 action-adventure where you play Thor, working through three chapters of Norse-flavoured puzzle rooms with a hammer and a lot of block-pushing. Often described as DOS's answer to Zelda. Ron Davis released it as freeware, and later put the source code in the public domain, so the complete game is hosted here.

How it works & what to expect
The original DOS release runs in a WebAssembly DOSBox build on this page. Each screen is a small self-contained puzzle: kill the enemies, move the blocks, find the switch. Progress saves between rooms, and the game is generous with checkpoints.
Playing tips

Why it's free
Author Ron Davis released God of Thunder as freeware, and in March 2020 released the source code into the public domain. All three chapters are included.
