Looking for the Microsoft version? Rodent's Revenge shipped in the Microsoft Entertainment Pack and is proprietary, so we can't host it — but our Rodent's Revenge guide covers running your own copy, and this plays by the same rules.
How to play Rodent's Revenge
You control the mouse. The grey blocks can be pushed — walk into one and it slides, and so does every block behind it, as long as the far end has somewhere to go. Walls and cats stop a push dead.
Trapping
A cat is caught when the open space it's standing in has no route out. It doesn't need blocks on all four sides — sealing off a corridor works just as well. The moment a cat is boxed in it turns to cheese, which you can eat for points.
Getting caught
If a cat reaches you, you lose a life and the level restarts. Cats can't push blocks, so blocks are the only thing standing between you and them — never wall yourself into a dead end.
Levels
Each level adds a cat and speeds them up. Clearing one earns a bonus and an extra life.
Strategy that actually helps
- Work in corners. A corner already gives you two walls for free — you only need to close the other two sides.
- Push toward a cat, not away. Shrinking the space it has is what wins; retreating just gives it room.
- Keep an escape route. The commonest way to die is sealing yourself in while concentrating on a cat.
- Take the cheese early. It scores, and it clears the square for movement.
- Split the board. A long wall across the middle halves the space every cat has to roam.
Frequently asked questions
Is this Microsoft Rodent's Revenge?
No. Rodent's Revenge shipped in the Microsoft Entertainment Pack and is proprietary software we can't legally host. This is an original implementation of the same game, written for ExeBrowser and free to play. For the original, see our Rodent's Revenge guide.
How do you trap a cat?
Push blocks until the cat is sealed into a pocket it can't escape from. It doesn't have to be touching blocks on all four sides — what matters is that the open space it stands in has no route out. When that happens the cat turns to cheese.
Can I push more than one block?
Yes. Pushing moves the whole run of blocks in front of you, provided the far end has somewhere to go. That's the core mechanic — a single-block push would make most levels impossible.
What is the cheese for?
Points. A trapped cat becomes cheese, and eating it scores. It's also how you reclaim the space, since cheese doesn't block your movement.
Do I need to download or sign up for anything?
No. The game runs directly in your browser as plain JavaScript — no emulator, no download, no account, and nothing is uploaded.
